Step out or sign out
Both end your session, so the terminal is safe either way. The only difference is whether Wingcert remembers the device for when you come back.
Both options are in the menu under your name, at the top right of the workspace.
| Your session | This device | Coming back | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Step out — Back shortly — one touch to return | ended | remembered | one touch of your passkey, or your PIN |
| Sign out — Forget this device on WingcertID | ended | forgotten | a full sign-in, starting from your work email |
When to use which
Section titled “When to use which”- Going to the stand, a meeting, or lunch, and coming back to the same machine? Step out.
- Leaving a machine you will not use again — a borrowed laptop, a training-room PC, the end of a contract? Sign out.
On a shared hangar terminal, stepping out is safe: nobody can get back in as you without your passkey or your PIN.
The automatic lock
Section titled “The automatic lock”The workspace locks itself after 15 idle minutes. A minute beforehand you will see Locking this terminal in 60s with a button, I am still here. Select it and carry on.
If nobody does, the terminal steps out on your behalf. Coming back is the same as after any step-out: one touch.
The risk this protects against is not somebody who forgets to press a button. It is a terminal left open while its owner is three bays away.
How long a device stays signed in
Section titled “How long a device stays signed in”When you sign in from your work email, you can tick This is my own device:
| Device | Signed in for | After that |
|---|---|---|
| Personal (ticked) | 30 days, extended each time you use it | Signed in again in full after 90 days at most |
| Shared (left unticked) | 15 idle minutes | Signed in again in full after 12 hours at most |
Leave the box unticked on shared or hangar machines. You can see and forget your devices on your account page.
